Gympie is a town forged in gold and resilience. Known as the “town that saved Queensland” during the gold rush, it remains a vibrant centre today. But modern challenges include crime rates that outpace many neighbouring regions. Break-ins, vehicle thefts, and drug-related offences remain significant, with statistics showing Gympie recording higher levels than state averages in nearly every category.
In recent years, Gympie has seen break-ins rise by almost fifty percent and motor vehicle theft increase by over fifteen percent. Domestic violence breaches have doubled in the last five years, reflecting deeper social challenges. At the same time, police and community efforts have reduced some categories of violent crime, showing progress amid the difficulties.
